Design

In one of my many days doing nothing and binge watching shows on Netflix, I recently discovered a guy, Ian Spalter who spiked my interest in UI/UX design. This article would take us through everything I know about the field.

Introduction

When you think about UI/UX design it’s a term instantly associated with apps and websites but It's broader.

Design is everywhere

There's nothing that you use that isn't designed in some way. It's just a matter of how well it is designed or not. A design isn't just what it looks like at the given moment, It has to do with the entire experience of using a product or service.

The easiest way to describe user experience (UX) is in combination with user interface (UI). The UI is the physical and visual elements a person interacts with when using a device and the UX is the experience a person feels while using the user interface.

History

The term was first coined in 1993 by the cognitive psychologist and designer Don Norman when he worked at Apple Computer — but the UX field is older than the term.

In the early days of computers, it was called information architecture. The web has lots of information that was required to be served to the user.

Can they be separated?

A lot of people talk about the distinction between the fields, user interface design and the user experience design.

By now you know the difference between both fields. A part of me thinks knowledge in only one field as a designer is of little use while another part believes it's fine as they are both crucial to a project.
